Vowels

 

I – when long as ee in the English beet.

 

Y – when short as i in the English bit.

 

E – when short as in the English bet.

 

A – when short as in the English bat.

 

0 – when long as in ough in the English bought, when short as in the English pot.

 

OE – Whe full as in the French eau, when short as in the u in the English but.

 

OU – when long as in the English boot.

 

EU – as in the French word peur.

 

U – As in the French word tu.

 

 

Semi-vowels

 

Y - as y in the English yes.

 

W - as w in English way.

 

 

Consonants

 

P - as in the English pit.

 

PP – as above, but extended as in p P – tap Peter.

 

T – as in the English Tea.

 

TT – as above, but extended as in  t t – bit tired.

 

K – as in English Kit

 

KK – as in English Sick Cat.

 

B – as in English Bit.

 

D – as in English Dog.

 

G – As in English Gap.

 

F – as in English Fat.

 

FF – as in English Half Fed.

 

V – as in English Vat.

 

TH – as in English thin.

 

TTH – an extended TH as th th in hath thought.

 

DH – as in th in English Thither

 

GH – as in German Bach and Scottish Loch.

 

GGH – as above but extended.

 

H – as in English Hat.

 

S - as in English Sat. or Z as in Zap.

 

SS – A lengthened S.

 

SH – as in English Ship.

 

CH – as in English Church.

 

J – as g in ginger.

 

M – as in English mad.

 

MM – A doubled M as in Mummy.

 

N – as in English Nut.

 

NN – a doubled N.

 

L – as in English Late.
